How to Properly Store a Jetski During the Off-Season

When you live in a country with as beautiful beaches and lakes as Australia, a jetski is the perfect way for thrillseekers to cool off during the summer months. But what happens to your watercraft in the winter? With the right shelter, you can confidently store your jet ski outdoors during the off-season without sacrificing its performance or lifespan, or worrying what condition it’ll be in by next season. At Easy Carport, we know exactly what off road vehicles like jetskis, waverunners and sea-doos need to remain protected from the elements.

Watercrafts and Winter Don’t Mix

Jet skis are built for adventure, but they’re not invincible. Leaving your jet ski outdoors without the protection of a portable shelter or portable carport exposes it to rain, UV rays, frost, and moisture. This can lead to a number of issues, like:

    • Engine corrosion

    • Electrical issues

    • Faded paint or decals

    • Mould and mildew

    • Cracked or worn upholstery

Protecting your jetski now can help you avoid costly repairs and ensures it’s ready to go when summer rolls around in December.

Perform, Prepare and Protect

The proper way to store a jetski during the off-season starts with performing some basic maintenance and preparing your beloved watercraft to be left unattended. So that means:

Undercover Cover

Autumn and winter can get pretty cold in Australia, and while a portable shelter provides protection from the elements, we recommend investing in a breathable, weatherproof jet ski cover designed to protect against rain and mildew.

Keep it Elevated

Elevating your jetski improves airflow, reduces mould growth, and prevents frost damage underneath, so make sure it’s secured on a proper jet ski trailer (with chocks or stabilisers).

Flush, Drain and Dry

Start by giving your jet ski a good flush with freshwater to clear out any salt, sand, or grime (especially if you’ve been in saltwater). Then, tilt it to drain any leftover water from the hull and exhaust. Once that’s done, dry everything off thoroughly, including under the seat and in the engine bay. It might seem tedious, but getting rid of all the moisture now can save you from mould, rust, or damage later on.

No Garage, No Problem

If you’re storing your jet ski outside and don’t have a garage (or one that’s big enough), the best long-term solution is to keep it under a carport or portable shelter.

A jetski is a big investment so it makes sense you want to protect it. Storing your jet ski under shelter offers year-round protection from the elements. A portable carport can shield your watercraft from rain, hail, and even frost or snow buildup if you’re based in Victoria or Tasmania.

A carport also helps keep your jet ski cool, dry, and well-ventilated, reducing the risk of mould, rust, or corrosion. By minimising exposure to dust, debris, and weather damage, a carport can significantly extend the life of both the hull and engine. Plus, not having to uncover or move your jet ski from tight garage spaces makes maintenance and inspections super simple.

In Australia, the average jetski is roughly 3.32 metres. With widths ranging from 12ft to 40ft, lengths from 21ft to 100ft or more, and adjustable heights between 6ft and 14ft, our portable shelters for off road vehicles have plenty of room for a jetski or waverunner (trailer included!). Made from durable, weather-resistant materials, our carports are built to withstand all winter weather conditions.
